Long ago (actually 1985), Luis "Lucho" Quintero left Cabimas (the western state of Zulia), Venezuela for the bright lights of New York City. Though his native land was many miles away, the food, music and culture never left his heart. In fact, absence made the heart grow fonder. Longing for authentic Venezuelan cuisine, Lucho took the plunge in 2004 and opened El Cocotero (The Little Coconut) to introduce his love of food to the public. Now, right in the heart of Chelsea, you can experience the flavors of Venezuela without having to look for your passport. El Cocotero has not only become a favorite neighborhood haunt, but a gastronomic destination serving foodies and celebrities alike. So sit back, have a Polar and prepare to feast. Wepa arepa!

I hadn't been there in quite a while. Somehow, the food was not as good as it used to be. Maybe they changed their chef. Still, the service was excellent.

This place has an extensive selection of Venezuelan food, including cachapas and patacón.
